The former first lady of the United Republic of Tanzania and Board Chair of the Rebecca Agroh Memorial Foundation, H. E. Mama Anna Mkapa has cut sod to mark the official opening of the Rebecca Agroh House at the Tamale Community Development Vocational and Technical Institute. In her address at the official opening ceremony, the Board Chair noted that women development was an essential catalyst for the development of the society.

Formally known as The Girls Dormitory, the structure has been given a major facelift and renamed Rebecca Agroh House. The renovation was done by the Rebecca Agroh Memorial Foundation which was founded to continue with the women empowerment legacy of the late Rebecca Agroh who worked at the Department of Community Development for years, devoting much of her time to the welfare of women.

At a ceremony to commemorate the official renaming, the Assistant Principal of the School, Mr. Justice Aikins thanked the Rebecca Agroh Memorial Foundation for the support it has rendered to the school over the years.

Dr. Ken Kwaku, Founder of the Foundation and son of the late Rebecca Agroh encouraged the students and staff to live by the virtues of selflessness, dedication to duty and honesty which his late mother embodied. He expressed the hope that the partnership between his mother’s Foundation and the school would remain fruitful.

Meanwhile the Northern Regional Director of the Department of Community Development mentioned other challenges facing the school and pleaded for more support from the Foundation, a request the Board Chair said would be evaluated.
