The Rebecca Agroh Memorial Foundation (RAM Foundation) on Sunday, 28th May commemorated the World Menstrual Hygiene Day in Mafi – Kumase SHS in the Volta region under the theme “from Anxiety to Confidence”.

The theme was selected to reflect one of the global hash tags because the Foundation believes that “periods” are characterized by lots of distress and anxiety largely because women do not know how to properly manage the “flow”. Thus it is our expectation that once they are well educated they can confidently deal with all the challenges that come with “periods”. Our main objective is to break the loud silence on the subject of menstruation and to help women know the most hygienic practices for better menstrual hygiene.

The world menstrual hygiene day is marked globally on the 28th May. It is an initiative of WASH United (a nongovernmental organization) which is the secretariat of the Menstrual Hygiene Day. The commemoration of the day begun in 2014 with the biggest one being the 2016 Menstrual Hygiene Day.

The RAM Foundation marked the day at Mafi – Kumase SHS with a talk by Mrs. Antoinette Da-Rocha from the Planned Parenthood Association of Ghana (PPAG) who took the girls through hygienic menstrual practices. At the end of the presentation there was also a donation of sanitary pads by RAM Foundation.

The Executive Director of the Foundation, Mr. Hardi Yakubu also used the occasion to talk about the Foundation’s upcoming project – The Girls Impact Project which it will be piloting in Mafi – Kumase SHS. He also commended the headmaster of the school Mr. Courage Meteku and his assistant, Mr. Franklin Amesimeku for their progressive nature and approach to administering their school emphasizing that the Foundation is looking forward to a long term partnership with the school. The school was also full of thanks for being selected for the commemoration of the Menstrual Hygiene Day and the Girls Impact Project.
