Ghana’s educational system is such that there is so much emphasis on grammar-type education that people usually finish school and yet have no critical skills to make impact in society. To a certain extent, this is one of the main reasons for the rising graduate unemployment in the country. At the lower levels, there are no clear skills with which Senior High School graduates for instance can impact their society even if they were not to enter tertiary institutions. Many have trumpeted the need to teach technical and entrepreneurial skills in the schools to curb this. Yet not many graduates have the financial wherewithal to be entrepreneurs. At the same time, there are basic problems that students can help solve in the communities in which their schools are located. This project is designed to introduce young girls to community impact events and to help them build a good pool of knowledge and skills in volunteering, entrepreneurship and community work. It is targeted at Senior High School female students for whom the benefits of this project will be invaluable. It will not only be beneficial to the communities concerned, it will build the self-confidence, planning, communication, leadership and interpersonal skills of the students as. Undoubtedly, these skills are relevant for the future of the beneficiary students. The Girls Impact Project is one of the several ways that the Foundation is seeking to achieving its vision.
